1. PROCESS:
- Be accepted by an AHA Training Center (TC) prior to enrolling in the Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center (By taking this course you will be accepted with AHA TC)
- Have current American Heart Association BLS Provider Card and be proficient in all the skills.
- Prior to class complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online and print the Certificate of Completion (Details below in section 4)
- Successfully complete the BLS classroom Instructor Course
- Successfully complete being monitored teaching up to 3 BLS Course within three (3) months of completing the classroom Instructor Course (Discussed further during the course)
2. PREREQUISITES
- BLS Instructors must be at least 18 years of age. This update is due to the requirement that all instructors align with the AHA Instructor Network website, and the AHA cannot collect information on minors under the age of 18 years.
- Have current American Heart Association BLS Provider Card and be proficient in all the skills. BLS Provider may NOT be taken online-MUST BE CLASSROOM COURSE.
- Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online and print the Certificate of Completion to the Instructor class. (Details below in section 4)
3. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Registration and payment for the BLS Instructor Course MUST be received prior to class. Register early, classes fill-up quickly. There are no reservations without payment. Class confirmation, directions, course information will be sent by email. Because the BLS Instructor Course covers a lot of material in a relatively short time, advanced preparation is required. NOTE: All classes have an enrollment cutoff date. Registering after cutoff date results in a late fee.
4. BLS INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIALS
Required: Completion of the Instructor Essentials Course is required to become an AHA Instructor.
The BLS Instructor Essentials is designed to prepare Instructor Candidate to teach AHA Instructor-led and blended learning courses, show how to adequately use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation, and follow AHA Instructor and course policies. The Instructor Essentials Course is an online, self-directed, and discipline-specific course.
- The BLS Instructor Essentials is purchased by using the button for BLS Essentials Online The BLS Instructor Essentials is a one-time only requirement and is $40.

Upon completion of the BLS Instructor Essentials Course, the Instructor Candidate prints a Certificate of Completion which must be brought to the classroom Instructor Course.
5. TEXTBOOK/ MANUAL POLICY
AHA policy states, "Each student must have the current, appropriate textbook readily available before, during and after the course." The BLS Instructor Manual (20-1103) MUST be brought to the class.
6. TRAINING CENTER ALIGNMENT
American Heart Association requires Instructor Candidates to align with an authorized Training Center that is accepting new Instructors when signing up for an Instructor Course. TEACH BLS automatically aligns all Instructors who take TEACH BLS Instructor Courses and does not charge an additional alignment fee.
If Instructor is aligned with another Training Center, please inform TEACH BLS Training Center in advance and bring a completed Instructor Candidate Application to class signed by that Training Center's Training Center Coordinator.
7. COURSE MONITORING
Instructor status is granted and an Instructor card is issued after the Instructor successfully completes the Instructor Course and demonstrates teaching skills while being monitored during a BLS Provider Course. The monitoring must take place within three (3) months of completing the BLS Instructor Course. You will have up to 4 monitorings to complete within that time.
These are done in person at no additional cost*.
Teach BLS Service Locations
TEACH BLS provides American Heart Association CPR BLS Provider and Instructor certifications and renewals throughout Northern California including Sacramento County, Shasta County and San Francisco Bay Area, as well as, Washoe County. TEACH BLS is authorized to issue AHA cards in California and Nevada.

Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials; do not represent income to the AHA.
The American Heart Association is authorized to offer AMA Credit Designation Statement to Physicians, AAPA Credit Acceptance Statement to Physician Assistants, AANP Credit Acceptance Statement to Nurse Practitioners, ANCC Credit Designation to Nurses, ACPE Credit Designation Statement to Pharmacists, and Continuing Education Accreditation to Emergency Medical Services for the BLS Instructor Essentials. Credits are claimed on the AHA website but there are time limits of 30 days to 6 months depending on accrediting agency.
Refund Policy
No Show
A no call, no show is an absence from the class , refunds or reschedules will not be allowed for anyone registered for a class and does not show or attend.
Tardy
We do understand that things happen but we ask that you plan accordingly. The address information will be sent in an email. There is a 10 minute grace period, after that you are considered a no show. (see NO SHOW)
Refunds
Once enrollment is complete we can not offer any refund. We will reschedule you once for the next class. Should you be unable to attend the class you will forfeit paid monies.
Monitoring
The aligned training facility will set the number of monitoring sessions needed. Teach BLS will do your monitoring at no additional charge however if you fail to show to the class you will be charged for future monitoring.
