Course Information

1. PROCESS:

  •  Secure Acceptance by an AHA Training Center (TC):
    Before enrolling in the Instructor Course, you must be accepted by an AHA Training Center and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file. (Enrollment in this course ensures acceptance with an AHA TC.)
  • Hold a Current AHA BLS Provider Card:
    You must have a valid American Heart Association BLS Provider Card and demonstrate proficiency in all required skills. (If you don't have one we can assist you with that)
  • Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online Course:
    Finish the online BLS Instructor Essentials course and print your Certificate of Completion before attending the class. (Details provided in Section 4.)
  • Complete the Classroom Instructor Course:
    Successfully finish the BLS classroom Instructor Course as part of your training.
  • Pass the Teaching Monitoring Requirement:
    Teach up to three (3) BLS courses under supervision within three months of completing the classroom Instructor Course. (More details will be provided during the course.)

2. PREREQUISITES

  •   Age Requirement:
    You must be at least 18 years old. This aligns with AHA policies, as the Instructor Network cannot collect information from individuals under 18.
  • Valid BLS Provider Card:
    Hold a current American Heart Association BLS Provider Card and demonstrate proficiency in all required skills. Important: The BLS Provider course must be AHA no other certification will be accepted.
  • Instructor Essentials Course:
    Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online Course and bring your Certificate of Completion to the class. (Details provided in Section 4.)

3. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT

  •  Register and Pay in Advance:
    Registration and payment must be completed before the class—no exceptions. Classes fill up fast, so secure your spot early. Reservations are not guaranteed without payment.
  • Confirmation and Details:
    Once registered, you’ll receive a confirmation email with directions and course details.
  • Prepare Ahead:
    This course covers a lot of material in a short time, so advanced preparation is essential.
  • Enrollment Cutoff:
    Be sure to register before the cutoff date. Late registrations will incur an additional fee.

4. BLS INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIALS

 

  • Completion Required:
    To become an AHA Instructor, you must complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Course.
  • Course Purpose:
    This online, self-paced course is designed to prepare you for teaching AHA Instructor-led and blended learning courses. It covers:
         Effective use of AHA teaching materials.
    • Ensuring students meet learning objectives.
    • Coaching and evaluating student performance.
    • Adhering to AHA course policies.
  • Cost and Access:
    The course is a one-time requirement and costs $40. You can purchase it by clicking the BLS Essentials Online button.
  • Required Materials:
    You must have the BLS Instructor Manual to complete the course successfully.

Upon completion of the BLS Instructor Essentials Course, the Instructor Candidate prints a Certificate of Completion which must be brought to the classroom Instructor Course.

5. TRAINING CENTER ALIGNMENT

  •  AHA Requirement:
    The American Heart Association requires all Instructor Candidates to align with an authorized Training Center that is accepting new Instructors when enrolling in an Instructor Course.
  • TEACH BLS Alignment Made Easy:
    When you take a TEACH BLS Instructor Course, you’re automatically aligned with the TEACH BLS Training Center—no additional alignment fees!
  • Already Aligned Elsewhere?
    If you’re aligned with another Training Center, let TEACH BLS know in advance. Be sure to bring a completed and signed Instructor Candidate Application from your Training Center Coordinator to class.

6. COURSE MONITORING

 

  • Instructor Certification:
    To earn your Instructor status and receive your Instructor card, you must successfully complete the Instructor Course and demonstrate your teaching skills while being monitored during a BLS Provider Course.
  • Monitoring Requirements:
    Monitoring must be completed within three (3) months of finishing the Instructor Course.
  • You have up to TWO (2) opportunities to complete the monitoring process within this timeframe.
  • In-Person and No Extra Cost:
    All monitoring sessions are conducted in person and are included at no additional charge.*

 TEACH BLS provides American Heart Association CPR BLS Provider and Instructor certifications and renewals throughout Northern California including Sacramento County, Shasta County and San Francisco Bay Area, as well as, Washoe County. TEACH BLS is authorized to issue AHA cards in California and Nevada.

The American Heart Association is authorized to offer AMA Credit Designation Statement to Physicians, AAPA Credit Acceptance Statement to Physician Assistants, AANP Credit Acceptance Statement to Nurse Practitioners, ANCC Credit Designation to Nurses, ACPE Credit Designation Statement to Pharmacists, and Continuing Education Accreditation to Emergency Medical Services for the BLS Instructor Essentials. Credits are claimed on the AHA website but there are time limits of 30 days to 6 months depending on accrediting agency.

Attendance & Refund Policy

 

No Show

If you do not call or attend the class you’re registered for, you will be marked as a "no show." Refunds or rescheduling will not be provided for no-shows.

Tardy

We understand unexpected delays, but please plan to arrive on time. Address details will be sent via email. There is a 10-minute grace period, after which you will be considered a no-show. (Refer to the No Show policy.)

Refunds

Once you’ve enrolled, refunds are not available. However, we will reschedule you once for the next available class. If you cannot attend the rescheduled class, you will forfeit your payment.
